New Curtains - Get on the Case of a Dull Décor Scheme

Fancy changing your living room or bedroom around but don’t have the money right now to entirely redecorate from top to bottom? Then one way to refresh things really quite dramatically and without going out on a limb cash-wise is to treat yourself to a new set of curtains or roman blinds. That’s because some of the amazing designer fabric available today is so eye-catching, dramatic and pretty, not to mention textured enough, to completely alter the mood in any room. And you don’t have to stick to the current colour scheme in the living room, bedroom, kitchen etc either. Have made to measure curtains run up to create a new accent shade and simply purchase a few similarly coloured candles, a lampshade and maybe even cushions in the same fabric, and you’ll have a whole new décor scheme ready to be enjoyed whenever the mood takes you.

Old Curtains

Try Before You Buy

Because curtains can make such a dramatic difference to a room it’s a good idea to order samples beforehand to give you a better idea of what the fabric will look like once it’s hanging up in front of your windows. Tack the sample up on the wall too at eyelevel so that you can see it every day and work out how it makes you feel (just as you would with a sample of paint). For instance, if you’re used to curtains that are similar to Ian Mankin’s ticking designs then to suddenly change them to say Clarke & Clarke’s Impression’s collection is really going to take some getting used to.

Use Different Curtains to Give Different Character to Distinct Rooms

It’s not uncommon to go into someone’s home these days and find the same curtain fabric and style in the hall way, living room and dining room. It may have been less expensive buying fabric in bulk but that kind of décor scheme doesn’t work for us here at Curtains Made Simple. Why? Because we believe every room has its own unique character – certainly every room has a different purpose. And, wouldn’t you get fed up looking at the same pattern and style in every room after a while anyway?

Use Different Drapes for Darkness

Heavy curtains and those which are lined work far better in the bedroom than thinner fabric as they’ll block out the light. Heavy drapes can also look wonderful in the living room – especially on tall or bay windows - but they should be pulled well back during the day to maximize the sunshine (you could always hang up sheer drapes to protect the furniture and prevent prying eyes peering in). So, if you’re bored with your current décor why not take a look at some of our designers amazing collections. From vintage lover’s favourite Cath Kidston to floral wizards Elanbach and the beautiful organic linens of Ada and Ina – you’re going to be completely spoiled for choice. And why shouldn’t you be?
